Zinc-nickel alloy electroplating process

HL-690 Alkaline Zinc-Nickel Alloy Electroplating Process

The alkaline cyanide-free process is suitable for both barrel plating and rack plating, producing a uniform, high-quality zinc–nickel coating with a nickel content of 12%–16%. The coating exhibits excellent brightness, uniform nickel distribution, superior throwing power and deep‑plating capability, enabling electroplating of relatively complex workpieces. The coating displays a silvery metallic luster; its alloy composition shows low dependence on current density. In salt‑spray tests, its corrosion resistance exceeds that of electro‑galvanized coatings by more than fivefold. It also demonstrates outstanding heat resistance, and after high‑temperature treatment, its corrosion resistance ranks among the best in zinc and zinc‑alloy electroplating. At a cathodic current density of 1 A/dm² in standard working solution, the deposition rate is approximately 0.20–0.25 μm/min (laboratory data). With a Vickers hardness of Hv 350–450, this coating is the hardest within zinc and zinc‑alloy electroplating systems, offering excellent scratch resistance. Its nickel content is evenly distributed, and its fine-grained microstructure facilitates easy passivation, resulting in a bright, uniform finish that can be further treated with colorless, blue, colored, or black finishes.
